The Future of Yesterday

7:42 AM. Dubai.

Muster along, ritual by ritual
Trained by a life so mundane
Ever so blind to the 'now'
Never remaining the moment
An instantly bygone 'then' instead
Lost before it is gained

Where is hope then to survive?
If the now isn't ever really now
The future a constant mirage
Always a well of hope
Yet never a part of today
Todays stay but only a day

Quickly becoming yesterday

Who are we then
But snapshots of moments
Passing by today
Moulded by the way

We imagined the future yesterday
So who are we then
But a dream with eyes wide open
Wishing, hoping, asleep but awake

If each moment doesn't change
But changes us instead
Mustn't we embrace the joys
So that they remain
Ingrained in today
Soon tomorrow's yesterday

Reappearing as hopes and dreams
Of a future that never arrives
In a present that never stays
